D&A Senior Advisor Scott Cameron
Congratulations to our colleague Scott Cameron, who recently took the oath of office as Director of the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District (NVSWCD). This is an elective office and Scott received nearly 91,000 votes in last month’s election. This was his first attempt at elective office.
Scott joined our firm three years ago, after more than 20 years of government service at the federal and state levels.
The NVSWCD’s mission is to work cooperatively with private landowners across Fairfax County, Virginia’s largest jurisdiction (population: nearly 1.2 million), to help them take actions on their property to improve environmental quality. Helping Fairfax County and the Commonwealth of Virginia satisfy their water quality obligations to the region and US EPA under the Chesapeake Bay Agreement is one of NVSWCD’s primary charges.
In particular, Scott is focused on problems relating to invasive species. “If all we are accomplishing by our water quality efforts in the Chesapeake Bay watershed is to create great habitat for plants and animals that have invaded our region from overseas, at the expense of our native species like the blue crab and rockfish,” he says, “Then we are falling short of what it really means to restore the Bay.”
Congrats, Scott, and good luck on the important road ahead.
Maj. Gen. (Ret) Don Riley Senior Vice President
A former Deputy Commander of the Army Corps of Engineers, Don joined our firm in 2010.
