Biography

Richard Long brings to Dawson Associates 35 years of EPA experience.  This includes 12 years as the Director of the Air and Radiation Program in the EPA Regional Office in Denver, Colorado.  In addition to his Air Pollution experiences, Dick spent over 20 years in the Water Pollution and Groundwater programs.

While directing the Air Pollution control program for EPA (1995 to 2007), Dick dealt with the issues associated with a rapidly growing energy sector, attainment and nonattainment designations for cities, revising ambient air quality standards, permitting, monitoring and modeling.  His primary focus was on protecting and improving air quality while creating an environment for economic growth and development in the rapidly growing Rocky Mountain Region.

As Chief of the Municipal Facilities Branch, Dick had oversight of the municipal wastewater grant and loan programs.  During this period, Dick not only managed the grant and loan portfolios, but also worked with a number of states to pioneer the expansion of the program into unconventional areas such as nonpoint source and groundwater protection efforts.

Dick has a Bachelors degree in Public Affairs from Seattle University (1973) and is also a graduate of the University of Southern California Environmental Management Institute (1981).  In addition to several medals for outstanding service at EPA, he received the Agency’s Career Achievement Award in 2007.
