Biography

Steve Luftig has more than thirty years of environmental restoration experience with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  From 2002 to 2004, he was EPA’s first Land Revitalization Director, leading land restoration and redevelopment at hundreds of Superfund and Brownfields sites..

For two years prior, Steve was Deputy Assistant Administrator, Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response, with responsibility for national waste handling, cleanup, oil spill and emergency response, as well as federal grant and contracting activities.

From 1994 to 2000, he served as EPA’s Superfund Program Director, managing an annual budget of $1+ billion, including large environmental response contracts.  He also directed EPA oil spill and emergency response programs (1990-1994). 

From 1972 to 1990, he was Superfund Program Director, Budget and Planning Manager and Supervisor of Wastewater Treatment Operations and Permitting at EPA’s New York City regional office.

Steve holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering (magna cum laude) degree from City College of New York and an M.S. degree in Civil Engineering from New York University.  He is a registered professional engineer in New York.
