Biography
During his nearly 37 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (New Orleans), with a 3 year break to serve on active duty with the US Air Force where he received a single engine jet pilot rating, Vic Landry became one of the district’s most respected engineering experts. Upon his return from Air Force active duty, he spent 17 years with the Corps of Engineers Operations and Readiness Division, serving as a General Design Engineer, Emergency Operations Manager and Flood Control Engineer. Vic directed Corps of Engineers disaster recovery work following Hurricanes Hilda, Betsy, Camille, and Carmen and the Mississippi River emergency floodfight efforts from 1973 to 1975.
During his last 16 years with the Corps, Vic was Executive Assistant and Advisor to the District Engineer, and a Senior Engineer. In that capacity, he served as Federal Legislative and Local Interest Liaison with the numerous political subdivisions and agencies associated with Corps projects and activities.
Following his retirement from the Corps of Engineers in 1993, Vic served as Executive Director of the East Jefferson (La.) Levee District until 1995. In 1996, Louisiana Governor Mike Foster appointed Vic to the Orleans Levee Board as a Commissioner, where he served for eight years.
In July 2006, because of his vast experience in flood control projects and local interest contacts, Vic was called upon as an independent consultant to serve as a senior project manager in the Corps’ Hurricane Protection Office (HPO). In this position he assists in activities to restore and improve the hurricane protection projects in Orleans, St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parishes.
Mr. Landry holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tulane University and is a registered Professional Engineer in Louisiana.
