Biography
Jimmy Bates brings extensive first-hand experience with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects to Dawson & Associates. His 38 years of service in the Corps of Engineers includes four years as Deputy Director for Civil Works in Washington, D.C. (1992-96). As Deputy Director, he oversaw project development and management of the Corps’ annual $4 billion civil works program for water and related land resources. He also oversaw nine field divisions and operations in 40 districts.
From 1989 to 1992, he served as the Chief Policy and Planning Division, Civil Works, HQ and from 1982 to 1989 as the Chief Planning Division, Ohio River, (Cincinnati, OH). During those years, he was responsible for Corps of Engineer policies and management of its planning program, including water resource planning and in navigation modernization in the 240,000 square mile Ohio River basin.
From 1980 to 1982, Jimmy served as the Chief Eastern Management Branch, Civil Works, HQ and from 1972 to 1980 as the Assistant Chief Engineering Division and Chief Planning Branch, Nashville District (Nashville, TN).
He holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee and is a registered professional engineer.
