Florida Environmental Leader to Join Dawson & Associates

June 27, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC - Estus Whitfield, who personified Florida’s increasingly aggressive environmental protection efforts as Chief Environmental Advisor to four Florida governors from 1979 to 1999, has joined Dawson & Associates as a Senior Advisor, the firm announced today.

Founded in 1997, Dawson & Associates is the nation’s premier government relations and public affairs firm for water and natural resource environmental permitting.  The company includes more than 30 former federal and state officials, including former Members of Congress John Myers and Sonny Callahan.

As Policy Coordinator and Chief Environmental Advisor to four governors, Whitfield wrote legislation and regulations for many of the state’s most far-reaching environmental programs.

In 1983, under direction of Florida Governor Bob Graham, Whitfield co-authored Florida’s Save Our Everglades program.  He later became the principal staff person in the development and implementation of Florida’s Save Our Rivers, Save Our Coasts, and Preservation 2000.

Whitfield also managed the Florida State Clearinghouse, which approved or denied all federally funded projects (including Department of Defense, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, US DOT, and USDA) in Florida.
